Vaiko wants Indian PM to boycott SAARC summit
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must boycott the August SAARC summit in Colombo and the Indian government must stop providing military assistance to Sri Lanka, General Secretary, MDMK, insisted in a letter he sent to the Premier on Monday.
Noting the recent hush visit to Colombo by a top level delegation led by India’s National Security Advisor, M.K. Narayanan on June 20, Vaiko further warned that India must “stop forthwith any sort of military assistance to the Sri Lanka racist government which is committing the grave crime of genocide against the ethnic Tamil race.”
He also accused the Indian government of “giving a red carpet welcome” to Sri Lankan officials “whose hands are stained with the blood of Tamils,” and of giving a US$ 100 million loan to the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry “enabling them to purchase weapons from Pakistan and China” to use for “decimating the Tamil Race.”
Vaiko further chastised the Indian government for preventing the supply of medical items collected by the ICRC in Tamil Nadu to areas affected by the conflict.
The letter warned that the Indian government has “mortgaged her sovereign rights by permitting the Sri Lankan navy to “lay sea mines in the international waters adjacent to Indian waters.”
The veteran politico also warned that the incumbent Indian government and its constituent parties are to be held responsible “for the loss of Tamil lives in the island of Sri Lanka” and will be “answerable in the dock of the people’s court of India.”
